Welcome to Kellycountry2000.com
Here you will find pictures and video clips which show you most of the historic locations in Kelly country, as they are today.
These locations are where Ned Kelly,
Dan Kelly, Joe Byrne, Steve Hart, Tom Lloyd and Aaron Sherritt rode as the Kelly gang
and the Police who pursued them, the challenge for you is to find them .
The Kelly gang were declared outlaws after the shootout with Police at Stringybark creek in the Wombat Ranges, they robbed the banks at Euroa near Benalla and Jerilderie in New South Wales , where Ned left his famous Jerilderie letter to be published, with a reward of eight thousand pounds offered, no enemies or sympathisers turned them in.
After the murder of Aaron Sherritt in the Woolshed valley at Beechworth, the gang planned to derail the Police train at Glenrowan, but instead a siege took place at Ann Jones Glenrowan Inn, Ned dressed in armour took on the Police in his famous last stand.
Being Condemned to death by Justice Redmond Barry, at Melbourne’s Supreme Court after being convicted of the murder of Constable Thomas Lonigan, Edward (Ned) Kelly was hanged at the Old Melbourne Gaol, On the 11th November 1880, his mother Ellen Kelly was a prisoner in the Gaol that day, serving a three year sentence, after an violent episode with Constable Fitzpatrick at their family house at Greta.
Standing on the gallows Ned uttered his famous last words “ I suppose it has to come to this. Such... (is life)”.
In 1881 a Royal Commission looked into the conduct of the Police during the Kelly outbreak.
Many Movies and some 400 books have been written about the true history of Ned Kelly's life and Family, Some of the best by Ian Jones and Keith McMenomy, Artists like Sidney Nolan have painted pictures and others have written music and songs about this famous Australian Bushranger.

The Timeline page has References to over 450 Bushrangers names, and of all Executions in Victoria, Between 1842 and 1967, 186 prisoners were executed in Victoria, Plus one American Service man in WW2, The Timeline shows the traditional Ned Kelly Gang story mixed with some early World and Aussie history which interests me, as my family came to Australia in 1839, and my missus family has lived in the Greta parish from about 1860, click the Highlighted words on the page for thumbnails and bigger pictures.
