Hello Bruce and others.
I wonder what those that attended the dinner thought of it?
Or are you not game to say?
I thought Bruce did a fine job of serving the meal.
Nice to meet Tim & his group. Unfortunately I was too busy
filming to mingle.
I thought the previous 2 years were far better for several reasons.
I hope that the council returns us to the Siege site next year.
(assuming it is still untouched)

Hey Dave, I'm glad somebody started this ! I had thought about it but not game to say. Great to meet a lot of the faces behind most of the websites around, Bruce played the part of " HOST" as nobody else seemed willing, a pleasure to meet Dave and camera, the rest of the evening.............well......
;....feedback from most people that attended last year was as Dave mentioned, back to seige site, not so formal, food & drink ( as much as wanted ) and being out of town, a real hassle for those who had to drive after. Thanks again to Bruce, Janet, Nicole, The Fagans and Dave for making us most welcome, a huge 3 days for us up there, as always a magical place and will be returning very soon....

Tim.
ps. for those who took more than 1 plate...........thanks as some of us missed out when none were left to pick up.

G'day Tim,
yes it was great to meet some new people. Interesting to talk to people who have hobbies outside of Kelly and I learned a lot about the cars of Mad Max & model making.
I don't want to sound negative about the night, I am comparing it to previous years and that is why I feel the previous efforts were better. Maybe others do not agree? I recall last year we had eye fillet steak and plenty of refreshments. Maybe they wanted us to feel we were in 1880 for real?
I agree about being out of town, it was not ideal. Perhaps the council will listen to these comments and return it next year. Being on the site was a great feeling of being part of history.
It was a pleasure to share the table with people such as yourself and your brother, (sorry I forget your mates name), Rod & Chris Gerrett, Mike Lawson, the Fagans, Nic, Matt, Bruce, Janet, Paddy from Sydney and more. It was a good table and location great for filming the band. I thought they were pretty good, the dancer too!
I think the plates suffered the same fate as the cups last year. Cups were taken at a rate of 5 to a person in some cases! Dave.

hey all, well from my point of view the two day event was ok , but the food was very poor, i expected decent food like what we have had at the last two dinners, not some crumby stew, if i had of known this i would have gone to the glenrowan pub for tea, for $15.00 you can get a steak with chips and veggies hanging off the plate and toss the scraps to the dog, i was very dissapointed and will be making a complant to the right people about it, while other people said they enjoyed the food, i did not think that a bit of onion on bread was good enough to begin with , we had 14 people on our table thats $950.00, and one small pot of stew to feed everybody was a joke, next year my booking will be conditional on what type of food will be served,

Monday was a good day, nice blue sky and sunny, we went to chiltern and was lucky enough to get the keys to the old lock up and court house, pictures will be on the site soonish, after chiltern we visited the commericial club at albury, and then headed for home

Hey all, great to hear general agreement on function and some of the down aspects of the night. Just being in the same room as many of the main players in the whole story as well as the desendants makes the crappy elements of the night seem minor. Paul O'Keefe was totally approachable and happy to chat as well as some of the Lloyd's that we caught up with. I forgot to thank Rod & Chris
also who made us welcome over the whole weekend, cheers mate the next beer is on me ! Again an awesome weekend had by all.............Tim.

It is very good to hear people had a good time despite the meal being less than expected.
That is the point I guess, those of us who had been before expected only the venue to change.
We did not realise the eye-fillet steaks and such would be missing. That is the difficulty when
you provide such a first class event and then one falls short in comparison.
Last year was so fantastic that it was always going to be difficult to match this time around.
As I did so much filming I did not get to mingle as I usually would, so this is the only way I have
to see what others thought.
Thanks Bruce for providing this forum so others can give their points of view.

I thought it was a great again this year.
What i liked it was totally different from last years event, I even thought it was better to be honest.
I thought the food idea was a rather novel approach. (i didnt have to serve thank god!!!) and our table had only ten on it. not like Bruce's rowdy bunch (lol) and we had plenty to go round.
The only couple of things that dissapointed me was you had to buy your drinks. and at $4.00 a pop was a bit rich and worked out quite expensive as I do like a beer or ten, i did try to get a discount due to the fact they used my uncles girlfriends photo on the label but to no avail.!!!!!!!
It was great personally to take my young 11 yr old Son Ryan, and is the next Generation of the family to continue our history forward in years to come, even though it cost me the full freight $65.00 for him as well. (no child discount)..
it was also great to catch up with all my family and friends once again.
Regards and best wishes.

Dinner from a chick's point of view!

Nicole Jones
Hey gang!
Well another dinner has come and gone and I must say I had a great time - particularly on the rowdy table as Paul called us!!!!
Like Paul, I too liked the concept - I could see what the organisers were trying to achieve but I think on the food they missed the mark! It would have been good if they had slaughtered more than one cow for the whole lot of us! And what was with the stingy mashed spuds!! At a $1.98 a kilo we could have had more than one spud between 12!!!! Thanx to Bruce for serving up - and Chris too!
I would have liked to have gotten up for an Irish jig - but all the guys on my table wimped out or were too smashed [and poor at the cost of the booze!]. I cannot believe no one has mentioned the faux pas on Joe Byrnes suit - did any of you realise it was there?????? lol! And what was the go with Annie Jones? I liked the idea but by the end of the night hoped that she would "spontaneously combust pretty much in the same way as the inn itself" [from matt! - sorry it is just those irish accents!] All in all a great night! Good to see the people of Glenrowan taking pride in their town and it's amazing history! Hopefully it will continue to improve!::
Love

Hello Everyone,

I think it is healthy to see a forum where no one is "afraid" to post opinions that may not always be popular.

I enjoyed the Seige Dinner. I have heard many comments, from many sources, especially about the venue. Also living out of town, meant one glass of wine was the limit.

I know for certain that many Glenrowan people would prefer to see the dinner return to the seige site. As I know many of the Glenrowan Improvers through various groups, school etc., I will certainly be gathering their thoughts.

I believe that in establishing a tradition one needs to keep the basic elements the same! Namely the site.

Good to catch up with people, although there were many I didn't get a chance to speak to - time went quick.

Maybe I can pick up our plates on EBAY

I spoke to the caterer, on Sunday, who said there were 40-50 people who left prior to the plates being washed, so with the at least 50 behind me, that makes a lot who missed out. I am always taking reminders of where I have been etc, but you would think that at this type of function there would be a bit more honesty - call me an optimist.

Paul - our Kelly is still on a high!! Shy retiring type that she is!

Proud family moment to see the next generation holding their head high.

I look forward to others thoughts

Hi again everyone,
Noeleen brings up a good point about "the bloody plates" on ebay...i carn't wait to see if someone is trying to sell "mine" on ebay..I won't be too happy if i do see one one there.

Nicole you do bring up a very very good point with that MP's faux pas..on Joe Byrnes suit..I was half ripped at that stage and was  laughing at his little speech.

I was also rather surprised at a few no shows this year namely...Bill Denheld, Rupert Hammond (since "his" precious suit was on "display" or so we were told!!!)(and he's usually is right next to it)(lol)....

Also when i was staying in Beechworth I saw Bill Denhelds new mini helmets which look quite good. the only thing he did wrong  is on the inside he has inscribed (C)Denheld which i ask who's copying who ???
Correct me if I'm wrong but i think 4 guys had that idea 124 yrs ago..obviously these "copies" will be sold at the Bill Denheld memorial overpass/Kelly Gang museum he has helped design at Glenrowan???..

i think i shall send little Billy an email about it and my thoughts
Regards to all

Hey Paul....Great to hear from you again as I pick myself up from falling of my chair laughing. I have spoken to a few people regarding Friday nights " rockshow", they know who they are...........Different would be how I would put it, I think you would agree, sitting next to you with your head in your hands pretty much summed up how it was effecting you. Cheer up most people will agree with what was said up there during the weekend, will email with pics next trip as discussed.................cheers mate, Tim.

Crikey, you cannot leave the forum for too long or you miss comments!

With the mistake about the armour by the Minister, you may also have noticed he got the number of dinners wrong. This I pointed out in the article I wrote about the dinner for my site. (at 1880)
I tried to be fair in what I said and also uploaded my previous dinner articles (2002 & 2003) as they are no longer live at Bailup.
As for Mrs. Jones, they realised she was Anne not Annie pretty quick but that accent! Anyway I guess I should not be nit picking.
Paul you would have fun no matter where you were! and your son's roller runners had everyone wondering what the heck they just saw!
After re-reading what I wrote last year I realised just how much better every thing was at that dinner. Noeleen is right in that the site and keeping it there has a lot to do with things. I am sure Baileys is terrific, however the atmosphere in the marquee was much better to my mind.
I guess we could go on for ever on these points. Just catching up with friends is a major part of it.
As for those plates, they had 2 young girls giving them away early on and no one seemed to stop them from getting rid of them as fast as possible. I hear there were mugs on the Sunday but have not yet heard how they went.

As for Bill Denheld, he told me early on that he was not going and Gary Dean said he would not go because the talk by Ian was the same as the earlier one. He was right about that fact, except the band was live this year.

Finally, Paul, you would be amazed at how many images with variations of the armour have some form of copyright on them. I looked it up at work and it was a bit of a shock. Some time back on e-bay I saw the exact same armour as the Kelly's had used in a bank robbery that went wrong. Wish I had bought the glass negs back then.

All the best Dave.

 Glenrowan Dinner(Edit Post)

Matt Shore
Congratulations to the Rural City Of Wangaratta, and the Glenrowan Improvers on the recent Glenrowan Commemorative Dinner. What a fantastic night.

I was lucky enough to be at the very first dinner, which was held at the Glenrowan Pub a few years back. It certainly has grown!

For me, the dinner presented a great opportunity to catch up with some people I hadn't seen for a very long time. Touching base again with Rod and Chris Gerrett, Mike Lawson, Kelly, Pat from Sydney, Bruce, the O'Keefe clan from Sydney (was anybody else as impressed as I was at Ryan's 'walking on air'? Now that kid has talent!), Dave and Nick from Rutherglen was just fantastic.

Whatever eventuates at Glenrowan, I just hope that it proceeds with the respect that was evident at the dinner - not the 'theme park' that was mentioned during one of the speeches!! We all know that that doesn't work!

My fear is that it will be overdone. I think most people agree that the recent suggestions posted on the internet for the 'interpretive centre' just don't 'cut it', and prove yet again how an important story (that truly belongs to everybody) can get lost in architectural wank (i.e the Eureka Centre). A tower spewing from the top that represents one metre for each of Ned's 26 years? Please!!!!! I can't see the folk of Glenrowan agreeing to that, depsite claims to the contrary.

Anyway, let's hope that the siege dinner continues to grow, and that it continues to attract new visitors, as well as the regulars!

Take care all,

Matt.

Of course Matt Shore had a good night, he sat on the best table in the house! :
It appears most agree that the food was an issue and if we could choose the location the marquee onsite would be the first choice.
I was not at the first dinner (50 guests) so I cannot comment.
It is THE premier event these days so would be a shame to see its decline.
The organisers always do a fantastic job, so I hope next year we return to the format of the previous years.
As for the Glenrowan Interpretive Centre, feel free to add your comments here Matt.

Anyway, see you at the dinner next year! Dave.
