The township of Sebastapol was a gold mining town on the banks of reedy creek, in the woolshed valley, Beechworth, it had a population of around 5,000. Today there is only two or three houses , The byrnes hut and homestead were across the creek from the township, the pictures below show some of the artefacts that have been found around the old township, it was in this valley that the great raid of Sebastapol took place and caused the police great embarrassment while they unsuccessfully blundered around searching for the kelly gang with about 60 men
