It had been raining for several days, the night of the 3rd November was dark and
stormy, after a failed attempt to cross the flooded Murrey river, the boys
returned to Everton, sometime after closing Mrs Vandeburg heard a knock at her Victoria
hotel door and standing there were four very wet and hungry men.
The leader said "My Men must be fed", and made Mrs Vandeburg
make them dinner, unable to pay
they left, several weeks later a bearded bushman paid for some food.
